Odd "mark read" behavior?

Just recently, when I mark forums/posts as read here, they still show (but non-bolded) when I hit the "view new posts" link. Previously, and on all other VB boards I frequent, marking read shows none of the old posts when I hit the "view" link again.

Just me?

That's because it is showing daily posts (regardless if you viewed them or not) as opposed to new posts (which depend on your cookie). Your cookie will bold and unbold them, but all threads will still be there in case you burn your cookie (go off and do something for 30 minutes).

That's a setting in VB then? Never had this here, or anywhere else lately...and don't see the setting in my ACP.

No, not a setting. I changed the link which is usually something like...

http://hosthideout.com/search.php?do=getnew

to a =getdaily&days=2 in the header (one of the header templates).

=getnew does the behavior like you are used to. If you know how the search URLs work, you can actually make your own URL which includes (or un-includes, heh) various forums, makes it list days or new posts, etc.

But let's say you don't come around for a week. The 'New Posts' link now only shows the past two days. Someone not knowing this might miss quite a few posts (like me :)).

I just tried the real new posts link -- http://hosthideout.com/search.php?do=getnew -- and it says "Sorry - no matches." Yet there are new posts out there. :confused:

That is a good point. I suppose I'll have to look at the drop down menu again.

BTW, the =getnew worked for me

Luckily I can only recall that this possibly affected me once (this past week). Normally I'm here much more often so I wouldn't notice it much. ;)
