View Full Version : Guidelines: Selecting Username
Adding a brief username summary on the Guidelines Page might be helpful. Something that includes -
"Usernames: Take an extra moment before registering. Your username …. CAPS in usernames are allowed, however, some may take this as shouting or yelling. "
Any other suggestions for pre-signing Guidelines that would help others select a username?

personal request: would you change my username from J_V_N to a nice and quiet jvn
 without the CAPS or underscores?? I shout at myself just seeing it

Heh, well... I don't know if it's been much of a problem (and we'll gladly change it if asked, as you probably have figured out by now ;) :D).
Thanks very much, that was quick.
:sun: it brightens my day.
Do you think the reminder on the guidelines (or perhaps right before the sign up) is overkill? Maybe I just worry too much.

Well, I think there are so many things we need to say (mostly "DO NOT SPAM!", said a few different ways), that we need to keep the total word count to a minimum so people will actually read it (in theory). I'll take care of the few users who need name changes or can email them suggesting they use all lowercase. :D
Uhm! I guess I was unclear in my original post. Did not mean to imply that all the names should be changed. The issue was more my own name. (I do worry too much). Some people want to stand out more and I don't mind that, that is just personality.
What I intended was more a reminder prior to signing up. If it really hasn't been a problem, that's great.
I agree about the word count and keeping it simple. Too many times people just click "I Agree" without reading all the rules. Been guilty myself.
ok. I'll stop beating the dead horse.
Again, Mr Chicken, thanks for the name change.
