View Full Version : Oh, the price of a Gig
Just paid $69 for a Maxtor 7200, 120 GByte over the counter at BestBuy (well, after the $30 rebate).
It's amazing how the cost of certain items have come down.
I recently bought a Dell Poweredge Server that was Intel 2.5Ghz w/ 512mb of ram, 80GB SATA 7.2KRPM Hdd for $250 shipped.
I have an extensive background storage and thus have contacts at Maxtor, WD etc. The new 400G and 500G drives bring the cost down so low that it's street price will be less then 30 cents per gig.
.. less then 30 cents per gig.
Whoops, I paid too much.
Well, the new drives arent avaiable to the public yet.

Gary, if you follow the deals web sites (fatwallet, etc.) they are pretty hardcore. Posting "a HDD deal" for anything less than $.50/GB will get you roasted.
A few years ago, I paid $130 for an 80GB drive (from CompUSA). My last one (bought last June 2004) was a 160GB for $80, which was at least respectable (bought at Best Buy).
(sorry about the keys Chicken, I,m not even going to ask what that cost - the aborted tow)
Well I think it is time we shut the forums down and go watch the game.
