Hello,

Since i noticed no posts were in the threads so why not start one hehe. Anyhow, who you be your closest but big players in hosting industry you would compete with? If you had a chance to convince their clients to leave them and be with what would you tell them? Please don't post cheap plans or "unlimited" related offers! Also why would you compete with those companies?:banana:

Its all about service and support.

So many of us are selling the same thing, basically, that unless a client has exotic needs, it can be six of one, half-dozen of the other. The difference seems to be in service and support (as stated above), and in "who's an ethicah web host" - ie not promising or implying services that aren't available. Either I'm not specifically competing against anyone, or I'm competing against everyone.

Actually, I don't know of any web hosts targeting the group that I am; so in that respect, I have no direct competition.

First, I would never disparage their current host in any form or manner. I would simply describe the benefits to hosting with me-service, value, features, etc. Only to know better where to focus would I ask a question such as "Why are you considering a change?" or "If you could change any one thing about your existing hosting, what would it be.?"

Also, I try to honestly understand why they are considering a change and have on occasion recommended that they not change.

I agree. Trying to compete via cheap plans and stuff like that is not the way to go. You are better offering great service and outstanding support while charging a fair price, instead of unlimited plans, cheap prices and other gimmicks.:cool:

Given the intense competition out there for "run-of-the-mill" hosting, it must indeed be very difficult to compete for business. I've always been a firm believer in :

1. Never put down your competition. Instead, promote your strengths - tell your prospective customers how they would benefit from signing up with you.

2. Look for a niche market and have a go at it. If you can present yourself as an expert in a specific field, you have a far better chance of garnering loyal customers who aren't necessarily looking for the "cheapest" hosting plan out there.

Just curious - I visited your site but could not determine which market you specialize in. What group are you targetting? (If you prefer not to tell, I understand...)

Hi vito, LegendHost,

Yes, my target market includes bloggers, authors, fanfic writers, first-timers who want to have a go at this whole web hosting thing but don't really know what they're doing, and - of course - anyone else who happens by and thinks that the plans look good.

vito, your points about never putting down your opposition: that's actually how I've voted for the past decade and a half. The instant any candidate trys to undermine or smear their opponent, they get crossed off. Come voting time, I have my shortlist of candidates for senate, congress, district advisor, state treasurer, what have you (and it's surprising how short the list gets sometimes). Those few times that the last candidate for a particular position has held some view that I really really can't stand, I vote for whomever held out the longest in the mudslinging wars. It's not a perfect system, but in my own sweet tyrannical way, it encourages proper courteous behaviour.

ps - and that's "her" site ;->

As i was reading your post, the first thing that came to my mind is that it must be a really short list...hehehe...but you mentioned it. It's a good policy. I am not sure it's an effective one for some areas, but hey, if it works for you at least most of the time, then, there you go. :cool:
