I'm looking for a hosting solution to host 2 to 5 websites with a shared phpbb board, a copermine picture gallery (gamers community sites with rather low traffic) and for that i'll need PhP/Mysql installed.

I want to host a ventrilo server (Voice Chat program http://www.ventrilo.com/) on it aswell. It shouldn't consume much CPU or Ram ressources but "a lot" of Bandwidth (around 30 to 50k sec for a room full of users at certain parts of the day, 3 to 4k /sec the rest of the time).

I recon I should be using around 500 meg to 1 gb bandwidth per day (mainly because of the voice chat server). I guess I wouldnt consume too much CPU/RAM but want to be sure my site will run smooth. Yet I don't feel like spending 70+$/months for that so I feel dedicated server is not the right choice.

VPS looks like the ideal solution to me from what I read.

Do you agree?

Can I find something in the 30$ range which will provide me with a fast and relyable solution?

I was told Ev1Servers are great but they are all sold out.

Advises, experiences and such are welcomed.

Hi, Dinix is a great solution however im not sure your are allowed to host ventrilo there, you may have to check.

I was with Dinix and had a few memory problems with the 128MB VPS ( they did some upgrades and say that those problems are gone), but they had good customer service.

I am currently with VPSColo and Rus and the crew have gone out of their way to help me out, they have great customer service.

ServInt also has a great reputation.

how many users are you excpecting to reach max on the ventrilo server? it may be cheaper to get a small plan some place then purchase a ventrilo server from an authorized dealer.

Well I finally changed my mind and went for a dedicated cheap server which was recommended to me by a friend already owning one there:

Celeron 500Mhz
128MB RAM
8.4GB Hard Drive
100GB Monthly Transfer
CentOS Linux (Free RedHat)
DirectAdmin Control Panel
3IP Addresses

$0 Setup - $35 per month

I'm not sure how it will perform compared to a 128 Mb RAM VPS, but I figured that since they don't charge for setup and only bill monthly, I can always move to a VPS at the end of the month if I'm not satisfied.

I guess owning a dedicated server will provide me with more freedom regarding what I can install and such although the celeron 500 & 128 Ram may cap the amount of stuff I can run there. But its not like my sites or the ventrilo server require much CPU/RAM, so its worth a try.

I'll let you know how it performs, thanks for your help.

Yes I guess it was the right choice because this server is running perfectly well. The guys running this business have been quite cooperative and the DirectAdmin free controle panel made things really easy on me.

Thx again to all those who provided me with advices.

I am glad it is working out for you, I hope it does not cost you too much down the road when you need to add memory.

Because you are looking for such high bandwidth I would recommend dreamhost (http://www.dreamhost.com/) they have 1.5TB of bandwidth a month on their lowest plan which is like 8 bucks a month.
