When you hook up a car battery, I'd assume that you hook up the negative (ground) first, and then the positive, correct? I'm pretty sure this would be the case (seems like common sense), but just in case there's some weird battery order that I don't know about, I wanted to be sure.
It's good you asked first or it would have been :chicken: = :splat:
Here's step by step info...

Whenever I hook up the battery I always go neg (-) then pos (+).
If it blows up your car you can't blame us, we're web technical not car technical :D

Well, we have success! I put my baby (a 911SC) in the garage for a year due to McNugget (hard to fit a car seat in there, heh), and finally got it out for a short drive. Needs a washin' though...
ummm, i thought it was (-) wire to (+) post and (+) wire to (-) post.

Actually it is preferable to first connect the negative to a ground. not the negative on your battery but somewhere ground maybe bolts on the engine or distributor and then connect the positive. If you have a powerfull car that takes up battery power then yes use negative and positive. Good luck with jump start.
Whoa what the heck are these things? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: hahaha!awesome! can we have a thread just with the smilies?
I use a jump start battery like this: http://www.empathys.com/products/battery-jump-start-01.htm (not exactly the brand I own). It makes everything easier. You do not need a second card to jump start your car. It's very easy to do to. No confusion whatsoever. I think you can get a good one for $30+, very well worth it! I have had chances to use it for three or four times in the middle of nowhere :)

That little thing seems pretty cool for mobile jumps (a friend of mine could have used that as he was asking for jump starts every other day -until he finally sucked it up and bought a new battery).
I think everyone missed that I was replacing a battery, not jumping one, but...

Oops ... sorry :)
To replace your battery, I don't think there is any difference if you go with negative or positive terminal first, as long as you do it one at a time :)
Hold the negative wire in your left hand while lubricating the positive wire with your tongue. Then tie the positive wire to the bumper, remove the carburetor, and put the negative wire down the little hole in the top of the engine. With a coathanger -- careful now -- reach underneath the sweater of the gal in the front seat and gently unhook the connector. Unpack the new battery, cautiously removing any excess hair, and place it underneath the car.
Then call a mechanic. If you need instructions for something this simple, you really need one.

Maybe I'll try this next time. I removed the carburator and all, but then someone told me that fuel injected cars don't have those carburator thingies, and I later discovered that I had actually removed the steering wheeel (so that's what that is called, who wudda thunk?) and it was hard driving without it so I put it back in. That's OK right?
:offtopic: ...and yes, I work in Inglewood as a 3rd grade teacher. :D
As long as you did the excess hair removal, you're cool.
