I just got word from my publisher that my book is out!!

So, I checked Amazon, and there it is:

How much of the price we pay goes to you? If it's a decent amount, I'll buy it :D If it's a not so decent amount, I'll probably buy it anyway

About $2 per book. The way it works is, I get 10% of the price that book buyers pay, which is less than 50% of the list price. So, if Amazon buys the book for $20, I get $2 of that -- more or less. Of course, I got an advance, and my royalties will initially go to paying off the advance -- so it will probably be sixth months to a year before I receive any money.

But trust me, you don't write technical books for the money. Unless you get very lucky it is hard to make a living writing technical books.

It builds personal equity though. Your resume is enhanced 10x from authoring a book such as this, and to back it up with your contribution to the Apache book.

Congrats on getting this published and released, I'll definitely be picking up a copy. And since I'm a "Customers who wear clothes" I may shop for some

Clean Underwear (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=merchants-index&node-subject=1079786&field-merchant-id=A1VC38T7YXB528&dispatch=browse&results-process=default/ref=xs_ar_g61_s71_n8_m4331/002-9161465-9831261) or Pet Socks (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/index=merchants-index&node-subject=1079786&field-merchant-id=A1VC38T7YXB528&dispatch=browse&results-process=default/ref=xs_ar_g61_s71_n8_m4331/002-9161465-9831261) as well since Amazon recommends them!

Definately. Having written the books that you have Allan, your resume must look very impressive indeed.

Thank you :). Its my first real book, so I am excited enough to sign 100,000 copies (not that it would ever sell that many, but you get the idea :)).

That is great! I will order a copy in a week or two.

Wish that you would of gotten mroe than $2 for it, however.
