View Full Version : Advertising Costs
Hello Everyone,
Is there a standard for the amount to charge for ad advertising on say a forum? I'm sure alot of companies want to know the amount of hits/unique hits you get. What would be a fair price? Or better yet how do you calculate the amount of hits you have to the amount you should charge for those hits.
I just kind of want to get an idea on what is normal rate, and when to charge more.
Sorry if this doesn't make sense. Thanks everyone.
You may want to send emails to a bunch of different forums that are similar and ask for their media kit or how much they charge. This information may be posted on their site or in one of the forum threads.
Then do some research on their website traffic. If you use the same tool to do your research you can get an idea of cost/traffic and do a comparison. At least you will have an idea of the range.

I had one that was $25 for 1k displays over a 1 week period. Don't know how that comparies and I didn't go with it as I'm a poor SOB but it gives you something to compare.

Thanks guys, great suggestions.

That I'm a poor SOB? Well, thanks..... :)
Please post what you find. I'm kind of curious as well.

Every forum has it's own rates. These at WHT are maybe the highest in the industry. It also depends of what kind of advertising you are looking for... banners, pinned topics, text links.

$25 for one thousand links is not a bad deal~
but 1 week might be too short~

Banners are useless in short term, unless you don't have $$$,$$$ to spend. I would look into buying some text links.

Banners can be useless if not done properly (just like most other forms of advertising). If done correctly, I've seen them be pretty effective. There's always a wrong way to do just about anything. Unfortunately many people try to be sales, technical support, the marketing and advertising department, web designers, etc., all themselves, and that can be problematic.

I agree, but what I said was "short term". Also I find text link advertising much more effective than banners.

What do you mean by TEXT LINK ADVETISING? How does that works?

You just buy text links pointing back to your website from other sites. There are 2 benefits of doing this. First, you get people cliking the link and visiting your site. Second, this improves your search engine rankings.

Do banners actually work? I usually ignore them, so i assume most do also.

Just offer low cost rotational banners.

Yeah, banners are not as effective as you think. More written things are better from an experiment I did before. Stickies are more effective than banners for sure unless you spend thousands upon thousands of dollars.
