A lot of processors also offer retrieval requests for free as well. These help to reduce your chargeback ratio

Isn't there a visa/mastercard thing we're it's $50 in the local currency of the merchant account?

Never had one in two years, but I believe our 2002 agreement is $50 per charge back as an admin fee.

We have a new agreement with worldpay that we are currently setting up. They have a £10 chargeback fee ($18.50)

Not so bad, and we make sure to confirm each order thouroughly before it is activated to avoid chargebacks :)

We pay $35 per chargeback. Of course, we don't get any even though we have a Chargeback Defender service. I'm sure it'll come in handy some day (I hope we never have to use it).

You cant really say your getting ripped off, but you are paying a lot...

There are cheaper providers, but that doesnt mean your getting a worse deal necessarily, your provider may offer something the others doesnt therefore justofying their higher fees...

Chargebacks vary from merchant account to merchant account, and that also goes for third party processors. Just as many merchants pay different discoount rates, the same goes for chargeback rates. It also depends if you have a domestic account vs an international account, or if your chargebacks are very high say 1.5% to 2.0% you may in most cases pay a higher chargeback fee.

Hi there,

I am involved in an ecommerce store where we have our own dedicated APACS link to our bank. It is a major uk acquiring bank - and chargebacks cost a staggering 15 pound!!

There are ways to not incur these charges though - you just have to build in fraud protection, and cancel or refund suspect fraudulent transactions before the customers refute it to the banks.

Kind regards
