Hello all,

I am evaluating some alternatives to cisco for firewall, vpn and IDS systems. I am currently know of

Firewalls/VPNs:

Smoothwall
OpenVPN
Astaro

IDS:
Snort

I know FreeSWAN and ending their distribution.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Tareef

Whats your budget?
That will give us a better idea of what info to give you.
Otherwise you can get answers that will cost from $0 to $30k

I am also looking at VPN server/client solutions.. we tend to lean towards open source products, and i have started to evaluate OpenVPN. I like the ease of configuration, but for my mobile users, Im not so keen on using it. Anyone know if there is a "point-and-click-and-connected" style client for windows users and OpenVPN or another open source product?

tareef,

I would recommend Netscreen all the way. We were having alot of DDOS attacks a while back and through testing a number of firewalls we decided on Netscreen as they outperformed all the rest.

Just my 2 cents,
