Well, I thought I have seen it all being a renter for about 7 years now. Lived in nice paces, crappy places, houses, apartments... blah. Anyway, it looks like we are being forced to move by mid-July!

This is complete crap, me and my fiance had found this place out of town a bit, and figured it was good because she has a couple years left to finish her law degree, so we needed to stay close to campus for her sake, so we were going to stay here for a few years.

Well, I go to the clubhouse today to report a clogged drain in our sink from the ***** upstairs. While there, I asked the leasing agent about our upcoming lease renewal.. and she said ok let me check. She gets out the book and says.. "Oh, I'm sorry, but your apartment has already been signed for someone else to move in on July 27th.

I just kinda stood there like WTF... you can't do that! And she says that they called us in December to verify whether or not we were staying, and I personally remember taking the call and said "Yes, we will be staying unless something comes up... etc etc..." and the lady on the phone said "Great, I will go ahead and put you down for a lease renewal then".

WELL WTF HAPPENED TO THE RENEWAL!!??

So, she tries to play it off like it is my fault somehow, and says she can move us into another apartment down the street, but it is on the 3rd floor instead of the ground floor. I was like no ****** way, the whole reason we moved here was a great patio, small yard, etc. I was so ready to :fork: her!!!

So anyway... yeah, we are in quite a bind all of a sudden. We have to move in a few months yet AGAIN. I normally don't mind, but when you spend the better part of a year settling into what you expect to be your home for the next 3 years, packing up and moving is not an easy thing to do.

We've talked about getting a house, but don't think it would be the best idea at this point. We aren't officially married yet, she can't work more than 10 hours a week while in school, and my income alone isn't quite enough for a very big mortgage. Not to mention, when she does finally get a degree and pass the bar, we will be moving across state for her to settle into her job. So kind of pointless to get a house for such a short time.

Anyway I'm just rambling... but just venting because this sucks... so many bills to change addresses on, phone numbers, moving, friends and family not knowing where you live anymore... ugh. Just makes me sick, I thought I was done with this crap :fork:

You shouldn't have to move and I would seriously look into this legally before just taking their word on this. I know laws vary but unless you violated some agreement with the management company, then they may not be able to just kick you out. I've never heard of a complex renting out a place before it's empty. I hope you can get this resolved but I certainly wouldn't be packing until I knew they legally have the right to do that.

we will be looking into it... but consideringi this is one of the largest management companies in the state, they have the backing to fight back just as hard. And I can already think of a few violations we have right now, such as an extra vehicle than we're allowed to legally park there, we did some petsitting for a friend's dog at one time.

So while technically they may be in the wrong, once you get nasty with someone, they are going to do everything in their power to get nasty back, and it would most likely fall against us anyway. But we're going to read up on some renting laws and see what might be possible... one way or another it is going to be a lot of extra work for no reason :fork:

The tricky part is that you don't need to fight the company. Try contain the fault to that particular low-ranking staff member by for example filing a complaint to the corporate head office. Say you think they are reputable enough to do the right thing. I've done similarly for a legal dispute with a really large real estate agency and they gave up. Good luck.

Well, you'd be amazed at renter's rights. My uncle rents houses and has a bear of a time evicting peopel who simply stop paying (you'd think that would automatically qualify, but it don't). Aside from fighting it, I was just thrown into the exact same situation, got 30 days notice for absolutely nothing. We called and they said it must have been a mistake, and when we sent in our check the next month, they sent it back saying we had 4 days to move (per the 30 day notice we had received). Anyhow, we got that extended 60 days more (it was CHRISTMAS TIME after all), and bought a house.

My suggestion is to buy something, anything, even a condo. Doesn't have to be your dream house/condo, but if you can afford it and will stay for a few years, you won't have to deal with that :bs: at least.
