On June 6th I transferred my domain name to namecheap. It's now June 11th and the status still says, "Auto verification of transfer request initiated". Does this mean my previous registrar has to approve the confirmation email that was sent to them. I already emailed them telling them I will be transferring and they said OK.

They do, far as I know, but if you're thinking it's taking longer than usual (your request has actually been less than 7 days), then you can reinitiate a request. I might wait on it a day or two more though.

Thanks Chicken. I guess patience is a virtue. :)

The transfer process can be a pain. Just keep checking the account though. The last time I transferred a domain to Namecheap, I never received anything telling me it had completed. I logged in after a few days of not receiving any e-mail for me to authorize anything and the domain was there. It usually (at least for me) does take the full 5-7 days too.

It's being a pain for me. I emailed my old registrar telling them to approve the transfer and they did. They had the confirmation email for 3 days but didn't approve until I emailed them a second time telling them to approve. But now it cancelled saying the registrar has to release the lock and then I will have to start the transfer process again. This is my first time transferring and it takes long and it's a real big pain. Mostly because my old registrar doesn't seem to be helping.

Do you have control over your domain at the other registrar? Meaning, you should be able to login to the control panel and turn off the transfer lock. This will prevent transfers and unfortunately, if turned on, you will need to start over. If you can't do that and the registrar must then I'd keep after them so it's done. Who's the old registrar?

My old registrar (hostgator) was also the company who hosted my website. Since, it was my first time registering a domain and getting a web host, I didn't know it was better to register and get web hosts with 2 different companies. I don't have control over it unfortunately. I just sent them an email to unlock it, and i'm currently waiting for a response.
