What do you mean by "trial"? CPanel you can get a 15 day demo license and I believe the same is true with Ensim. To me that is a "trial".

Normally I wouldn't say this, but if you or a company you work for offer a cp product, free or paid, you may list it in this thread. The reason I'm allowing this is that I will be using the information for something HHO related (and would like to update my information).

A demo is a demo. Meaning that it isn't a fully functioning software while a trial is the full version but has a x amount of days before it expires.

I'm sorry, but I cannot find a place to download Cpanel or Ensim without having it check for a valid license. Mind posting the URL? Thanks

to clarify...

H-Sphere can control windows based servers as well as *nix but can not be actually loaded and run on a windows based server.

"Ensim" should be listed as a panel, its a company which produces several control panel products, each deserving its own listing:

Webppliance 3.1
Webpplaince PRO
VPS

There is big differences between the 3.

I purchased DirectPHP's control panel and even through it says clearing that the license is good for one server, when I changed my DNS for that server Richard Kurth would not update the license to the new DNS.

I sent email, after email :banghead:

Personally after this experience and checking out other Control Panels, I would never buy his products again..

Thanks for the mention. Just an FYI, my CP is not intended for resellers, though if you feel it works for you have fun with it! I originally wrote it to help me as a server administrator to maintain over 1400 websites on the Windows2000 platform. It's very very loosely based on the CP found at www.adsi4nt.com. I will be making updates to my CP but all updates will be for administrators not resellers. I am thinking of making a reseller's version with an end-user interface. Come on over (http://www.nthelp.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=162) and give me some feedback about reseller CP's.

Since Chicken sort of said it was okay (my apologies for such an old message):
APanel.com, my product, will be released this coming Spring/Summer of 2004. Was supposed to have it done last year or near that but never got it. The entire backend is built. So you could say it's around 60% completed.

zsindhu
10-08-03, 12:54 PM
erm, notnamed, why would anyone use Apache on windows when there's IIS?

IIS 6 on Windows 2003 is a GREAT improvement on the older version. More stable and much easier to handle.

I guess there aren't any CPs for Win+Apache as there isn't a significant number of webhosts using this combination.

complex
12-29-03, 08:36 AM
FBSD 5.x is still a "technology release", so many people aren't quite ready to support it. I've talked to PSoft, and they said they have H-Sphere support ready to go, but there are apparently some problems with Java that need to be resolved before they can release it.

I'm looking forward to it, though -- I'm building a dual Opteron server now and would love to have AMD64-enabled 5.x running on it!

No Im not affiliated in any way but I have tried them all and been satisfied with none.
I've found the best thing with this mob is the fact that the free package gives you a liscence for 100 domains.
I use this with PHPCOIN as my billing and it creates a very professional looking web hosting company.

FlexCP Info

Development Project:

http://flexcp.sourceforge.net/

Future homepage:

http://flexcp.org/

=========== FAQ ================

Q. What is FlexCP?
A. FlexCP is an open source web hosting control panel for Unix-like systems that is comparable to CPanel. It allows complete automation for all hosting related tasks such as creating users so they can manage their own email accounts via a highly skinable front end that can be accessed by any web browser. It is comprised of two separate pieces, a back-end daemon and a web front-end. It is developed in PHP and is designed to be portable. It is in large part a rewrite of web://cp.

Q. Why was it decided to rewrite web://cp?
A. FlexCP was planned to fix some of the limitations in the original web://cp project. The web://cp project was a very functional package. However, being the first attempt of a free full featured hosting control panel and only having one full time developer, some design decisions were made in the the name of expediency rather than best practice. It suffered from some limitations such as complexity and lack of modularity. It also lacked error checking, and many advanced features such as support for virtual users. The inherent way it was developed made it hard to add these important features. It was decided that it would need either a major overhaul or a complete rewrite. When the vote was taken we decided to do a rewrite and allow the current version of web://cp to continue to be developed separately.

Q. Why is the front-end separate from the back-end daemon?
A. The back-end daemon runs as a root user and takes care of enacting all administrative changes on the server. The front-end authorizes with the back-end and sends it commands over sockets. The web front-end is built atop a built-in php http daemon which serves the panel on a specified port, which users can then interact with. This approach is very secure and scalable.

Q. Why is FlexCP written in PHP rather than (C, Java, Python, Perl, etc.)?
A. The choice of language really comes down to the best language for the job. Since large portions of FlexCP are web based, a language that would integrate closely with that offers some desirable advantages. Also we decided to avoid languages that are compiled to make it easier to maintain packages and keep the code portable. As far as we know PHP is available on all operating systems that are commonly used for hosting. There is also a large developer pool of system administrators who also know PHP. Lastly the original web://cp project was written in PHP so a lot of code is already available and there isn't a persuasive enough reason to switch to another language.

Q. Why not create a CD iso or distribution that automatically installs a FlexCP server?
A. FlexCP is designed to be portable and to be used on any type of UNIX-like operating system. We do not want to create dependencies on specific packages or installs; but would rather add support for as many OSs and server software as possible. We also do not want to maintain and upgrade packages for software that is outside the scope of FlexCP itself. Therefor FlexCP will be a package to be installed on an already existing system. It is possible that a related project outside the scope of FlexCP may provide such a full install CD however.

Q. What are the main features that are planned for FlexCP?
A.
- secure design
- fast and powerful templating system for the web front end
- controls user, client, domain, reseller, server, and multi-server aspects of shared web hosting
- configures web, email, ftp, database, mailing lists, DNS, etc.
- automates backups, restores, user management, quotas, cron, certs, etc.
- pluggable modules for extending supported services
- support for packages and feature sets

Q. How long will it take to make FlexCP stable and usable?
A. That depends on how many developers are interested in helping develop a free alternative to commercial hosting control panels such as CPanel and Plesk. This is a voluntary project that is worked on in the spare time of the developers. Without help it could conceivably take a very long time. If you can't help personally but would like to sponsor some of the work then by all means contact us and we'll tell you what you can do.

I have been following the development of flexcp for about 2 years and I basically think that development is at a standstill. Some of the developer talent is still associated with Web-cp. Web-cp is (in my opinion) the best of the GPL panels that exists currently. As posted above the updated link to the current webcp maintainers is http://web-cp.net .

I maintain www.phpanel.net which is an extenstion of the web-cp codebase. Not exactly a fork... just lots of patches and random useful GPL code tweaked to work with Web-cp. I don't know if it would qualify to be added to "the list" but what-the-heck .... never hurts to ask. :)

Do you need a control panel for your hosting server but you can't afford license prices? Then you can take

a look at Cube Panel.

It's a control panel in the same fashion than Plesk or Ensim with all of their features, but for free.

Check that features:

* Complete administration of the server, via control panels, with 3 levels of management (Administration, Client and Domain).

* Totally configurable control panels (personalization of skin, logo and language) at an Administration and Client level.

* Totally integrated domain registration platform.

* Multi-language support, with the possibility of including an unlimited number of languages and personalising all the texts via an optional module.

I think you forgot ours (Unix):

In fact, our control panel is the only one directly included in the FreeBSD ports, and many of our users reported it one of the best solution.

Looks good! Thanks.

There are a few CPs no longer available, I'll release an updated list in a few.

How about including some control panels in your updated list that are emerging... Like Hostmatic extension of MachPanel?

This a an emerging panel with lots of goodies... Above all, it is FREE for life. There is a Lite Edition (Fully Functional but with limited resources).
