Just for the heck of it, I redid the Logo for HHO. Heh.

Let's see what other people can come up with.

Try to keep the same dimensions as the current one (207 x 53)

I LOVE IT (as an emergency backup logo should the current one, which is better, get broken).

I like it, looks a bit funky. The current one is sorta plain ... :D

The current one is staid and refined, perhaps even a bit snobby. A perfect mirror for an administrator named Chicken :D.

A lonnnnnng time ago I had contacted a designer (more like just talk to them anyways from time to time and it came up), about a design for HHO, but I hadn't talked to them in quite some time. Out of the blue yesterday, one of the designers from the firm sent me a mock up. Have to get back on that one, as it has a few areas that need attention, but a new logo wold probably be part of a new design.

Honestly, I don't mind this design. It does what it does and just needs a bit of here and there cleanup, but overall it is OK. Main trouble is that it's a template and apparently all over the web, so we'll be looking into something unique.

Why is WHT.com so successful? Why is Fws.Net so successful? Because their forums aren't graphic intense.. they get to the point. I still think that this template is heavy on graphics.

I like the design.

I keep hearing about WHT (and FWS a little). What are the URL's/names? I can't find them. =(

WHT = www.webhostingtalk.com
FWS = www.freewebspace.net/forums/

Ironically, Chicken is a Moderator for both. Funny thing is, my friend was like "dude this guy is all over the place!"

Correction... was a moderator of both. I'm no longer at WHT, and trying to get to FWS more, but HHO takes up much of my time.

I wondered that myself. Main page just tops 100 kb (112 kb) and I'm not sure how much lower I can get it than that, but I'll try to run the graphics through some optimizers one day. A new design would be heavier most likely (though my main goal is still to keep it as light as possible).

I think you should leave things as is. The layout is clean and fast loading... but then again, I am on a T1 connection. But I love the clean layout.

I am on dsl and it loads 10 times faster then that other forum or any other one that is grafic intensive. I for one like how it is right now btw the new icons for new posts in the topics is very eye grabbing.

James, that's good. Really the aim is more to provide a place to discuss issues, than provide a pretty, graphic intensive site that takes forever to load up. I like the look of yaxnay, etc., but I just wouldn't want something that heavy. Any changes will be in line with this. Trick is to make it uniquely pretty, without adding tons of graphics... -a designer's dream assignment I'm sure ;)

I'm on 56k and this loads quicker than WHT for me....

I do like the current layout, but also like the logo. :) The logo is laid back and playful, which seems to be a perfect combination for a forum that's friendly, entertaining, and educational.

The color scheme is nice, easy on the eyes. Load times are great but I am on a DSL but this forum is faster loading than others.

The logo, a little plain, it does its job which is to tell you where you are in case you didn't already know. :D

I said that on purpose so people would post how well fast this site loads and well, 95% say it loads faster than all the other forums, yay!

Figure in 10-20 thousand more posts and stuff where the db is large it'll get slower, but for now it's super quick to me.

I like the subtle gradation used for shading light and dark in the left side boxes and top button areas. My eye appreciates the texture- even though it's slight.

The logo idea seems 'Archie comics' to me. Not bad- but not right either. I don't think it would be an improvement. Re-done with a different font might work.

HostHideOut is a 'pirate' type name~ at least that's what my inkblot response is! It's cool. What if you played with an alternating positive negative (light/dark) font with 'HideOut'? Maybe borrow some style from a political ransom note of font mix- seen in a TV drama with cut and paste of different fonts...

Anyways, I'm sure you'll find the updated identity you want to project in your HostHideOut logo. :star:

I never thought of the pirate angle, heh. I had always thought of the superhero hideout. Still needs work, and that reminds me to get back to the designer!
