Hello,

I have been looking around to find a version of linux that I can fit/compile to a cf(flash card). I keep seeing people put linux on 256 or 128 cards and would like to find out more information.

I need some version of linux that will boot very fast that is small for my car pc.

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked out Damn Small Linux? http://www.damnsmalllinux.org It was less than 50 MB last time I checked in on it.. I hope it hasn't bloated to not be able to fit on a flash card. ;)

I thought that that would auto detect all hardware every time that you booted?

Is there any distro that you can compile to not auto detect hardware for faster booting?

Thanks StrikeDoug for the post!

You may want to check their forums and see if there is a way to disable that. There was another tiny linux distro that Kevin Rose reviewed a few months back on TechTV's The Screen Savers... but with their new deal and changing to G4TechTV it seems they are in the process of moving everything. Sorry I can't offer more help, as I haven't had much experience with these small linux distros (save perhaps a few SYSLINUX floppies I've had to use to recover Windows NT SAM user passwords). ;)

Best of luck to you,

Doug

You can also do a search at DistroWatch.com. They have details on almost every linux distro.
