Here is a interesting project that I was talking over at lunch today.

Has anyone seen those .NET commercials. First has anyone used dot net, I haven't. Second I was wondering if a system was in place for all businesses to trade on a global scale. Like elance but for everything.

Any thoughts

Very good idea. Something worth looking into. I worked for a company for around a month that used .net. They had alot of problems with it. But I think that would be something that would be very succesful

Just an informational note: MS is apparently renaming .NET to "Windows Server System". Which is going to cause all kinds of "They're a bunch of WSSes" commentia.

I'm not sure it's possible to generalize B2B transactions that much. There is a ton of money out there just looking for pockets of those who possess the skills and talent to build specialized B2B systems, if you could really generalize it then you'd revolutionize the whole world. This is what Microsoft thinks they've done, and realistically they have come closer than anyone else. They have the most potent framework available: .NET.

Comerce One, Ariba, they've all pretty much failed at building a cost effective specialized infrastructure while (though to Ariba's credit, they did create cXML). WebLogic, IBM (WebSphere), other various J2EE platforms (SUN, Netscape, etc.) and now Microsoft with .NET. While this is an EXCELLENT idea, it would be very very difficult to encapsulate and even understand how every type of business is conducted.
