I just got a new Sony camcorder for XMas from my parents, they sent it about a month early so I could capture his first birthday. One of these days I'll figure out how to get it on this nifty laptop, edit it, and cut out some short MPEGs to put on line.

Truth be told, I've always been a bit on the skepticle side of putting real photos online. I'm not real sure why.

And before anyone asks, he is small and developmentally at about 9 months. He was born 11 weeks premature and weighed in at just under 2lbs. He should be caught up and in line with the rest of his peers well before his first day of school!

We live in a Tri-level home. BAD IDEA if you plan on having kids! You can see the missing stair-rail in the "im_coming_up" picture, it was an iron rail and we had no way to attach a baby gate. Since that picture two weeks ago we've built a nice wooden rail and he's pretty well protected now; just in the nick of time.

Is it Digital? If so (and even if not), I've found the Pinnacle software (and hardware if you need it) is pretty easy to use. I've found that converting it to Realmedia preduces the best results, which kinda stinks because I don't like Real Player (no one does), but the videos are indeed sharper and have much better detail.

One day I'll bore everyone with my 5 minute, "learning to walk" video.

Yes, it's digital, works with the Sony memory cards and the mini dv tapes. The software that came with it converts to MPEG 1 but the image is horrible. I'll definitely take a look at that Pinacle software, it sounds good.

My biggest problem is that I have one 9GB SCSI hdd and another 20 GB IDE, both of which don't have tons of room for large amounts of video (needs 4GB of space every 15-ish minutes). I need a bigger hdd!!! (Good excuse to go to the computer store and spend money, heh!)

Wow, that's a ton of disk! This is gonna cost me a fortune isn't it? :) My laptop luckilly has a 48 GB drive but that seems so small when dealing with that kind of volume.

I've been trying real hard to talk myself out of buying an Apple PowerBook, but it's getting really tempting lately.
