View Full Version : .org DNS change instant?
I just registered a .org name, changed the DNS and then checked the setup. DNS check said it was resolving to my server after like 2 minutes. It is. *whoa*...
Either I got terribly lucky, or the PIR is really on the stick with DNS changes. Is that the norm now?
For new names without world-wide cache entries it usually takes about 15 minutes for me. May have to do with how the registrar updates (restarts?) its own Bind services.
For changes with existing domains the caches of the world have to be sweep clean. That can take several days.
2 minutes is fast.

Yeah, I'd say chances are you got lucky on this one. :) Of course it doesn't mean the domain would work for everybody anywhere just yet, as projo said that would take a few days, say 24-48 hours for propagation.

I think this depends on timing and parent nameservers. I registered a new .biz the other day and noticed it was online within a few minutes whereas the .net's I register take a couple of days. After checking with the parent servers, it appears the .biz parent servers are setup to refresh a lot sooner than the .net parent servers. More precisely, .biz refreshes at 7200, .net and .com at 172800, .org at 86400. Based on this, if you want a quick domain, try registering a .biz.

Actually different TLD are now being handeled by different registry, .com .net by Network Solutions , .biz by Nulevel, .org by PIR.
So here the difference is because of there performance.
