Get a wired router. I have one and it works for me.
Moved to proper forum.
Hi Steve,
Don't know if this will be of any use but here goes.
I'm on a wireless network too, if you haven't already done so, setup WEP (Encryption) to protect the network from others, which might be interfering.
Also, if your router allows it, try setting it all to use a different frequency. I use "Channel 6", i'll try and look up the actual frequency for that, but that can help sometimes.
Could you go into a little more detail about range, number of computers connected etc to give me an idea of your setup.
Thanks
2 Computers, sometimes 3 ( work laptop ) umm from 3 stories up I guess, the main is in the basement mine isnt on the main floor but upstairs.
Hi,
A lot depends on the type of material the signal's trying to pass through, if your house has solid walls/floors such as concrete, then obviously it's going to be a lot harder for the signal to get through.
If that's the case, then I go with Operator and suggest a wired network instead, as you're likely to get a constant bad signal.
Another thing you could do to check though, is to make sure the equipment is as far away from all electrical appliances and wires (including wires in the walls if possible) as they can cause interference and can even interfere with wired networks, so try and keep everything a few feet clear of electrical equipment.
Once you've done that, give it a little while to settle down, like 5 minutes or so to be safe, if that hasn't made a positive effect then try changing the frequency on your router and wireless adaptors. Make sure they're all set at the same frequency.
Change that and give it time to adjust itself, and if it doesn't seem to make an effect, then change it a few more times if you can otherwise try setting your equipment to "Ad hoc" mode.
I don't know if "Ad hoc" mode is built into every router, but it should connect the computers to each other, like a daisy-chain effect, then the computer nearest the router becomes the "Internet PC".
I may be wrong with that terminology, as I haven't studied or used "Ad hoc" mode before. But I hope i've given you something of use.
Thanks
it seems to be running okie for the last 2 hours *knocks wood* and nah my floors are wood, ask pops hes a contractor :)
You mention the computer using the wireless part, as though others are wired. If you have a wire to the main floor then put your wireless hub there and get a regular router/hub for the basement. However you can get another wireless from tigerdirect.com for about $19 after rebate.
well the main comp is wired but the router is 3 feet from the comp the laptop is also on wireless.
