So I'm just curious. How much would you think the fine would be for a red-light camera ticket? This will be one of two threads on the subject, but I just am curious as to what people *think* the fine would be.
$250.00 to $370.00
.. and your feathers plucked.

In the uk, the fixed fine is £60 (about $105 US) and 3 penalty points on your licence. However, if you contest this at court the fine can go up signifcatly and you could find other charges against you such as dangerous driving or driving without due care and attention. (depending on how close you were to causing a accident and the time and location of the offence.) These charges could result in loss of licence and even prison is extream cases.
Have a look at these photos http://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/dcsc/enfotech/redlight.htm

Depends where you are located, if you are in the ghetto the cameras are not going to be there, if you are in lower income hoods then they will be cheaper, if you are in hollywood I would say around 200 clams. You ever wonder why your speeding ticket can very from county to country? Not sure if ya'll have county's down on the West coast or anywhere else, but in Texas we had county's and prices are different on the Wealth of the city.

You think running the red light is a $50-$100 dollar violation??
if its anything like the uk it will be $120

It can range from 0 dollars to thousands of dollars, for any tickets, fee's etc... it is different in every area of the World.
I read a book on getting out of speeding tickets for a law course I took.
First, because most tickets are delivered by postal mail, they said you can go ahead and throw it away. For a ticket to be valid, it has to be delivered by a police officer, and you must sign for it.
The second defense deals with who was driving the car. Unless they have a clear picture of you, then they have no case.
It is said that most areas outsource the ticket-camera service to outside companies. These companies send out massive amounts of tickets, hoping that many are just returned with the fine paid.
I was told by several legal sources to always dispute a speeding or moving violation ticket, even if you were in the wrong.
$350 seems a bit high to me, but then again, the person did run a red light.

That is the amount.
So I know the answer to my other question. They don't take a picture of the front plate, just the back.
They actually take four images. The first one is my car *at* the line, red light duration is 0.350000 seconds (less than a 1/3 of a second). The second picture was taken less than a second later, me about 10-15 feet after the line at 1.171000 seconds after the light turned red. Third is of me, not sure if it's clear enough to pass the "it wasn't me!!!" test, but if I shave it might work, who knows. The fourth image is of the back plate, zoomed up pretty close, you can tell it's my plate.
$341.
The only reason I thought I didn't make it was teh flash, but otherwise I thought I had a clear run of the yellow. As I said, there were two lights, very close to one another (2-3 car lengths apart), and the when I saw the yellow, I was concentrating on the first light, made it no problem, but the second light kinda jumps out at you and there's not a lot of time to make a decision.
To put it another way, I'm sure you've all gone through yellow lights before. Well, picture goin gthrough the yellow at normal driving speed (40-ish mph in this case), and then trying to stop within 3 car lengths after that light for a second light which is about to turn red.
Well, I missed it by 0.350000 seconds, though from my vantage point (low sports car), it seemed like I cleared the line no problem.
So I've heard, these are not easy to fight, as they simply don't care and want money, and the picture shows you went through the light. Common sense and reason have littel to do with it apparently. We'll see.
I think it should be a charge per 10th of a second or something. As it is, someone who runs a red light 30 seconds after the light turns red gets the same ticket I do 0.350000 seconds after the light turns red. At least this way if you just missed it like I did, the fine wouldn't be $341 for heaven's sake. Yes, I missed the light, but I didn't miss $341 of the light IMHO. I'll probably get screwed. Bahhh....
0.350000 seconds.
I was reading some studies on how effective these cameras are at reducing accidents at intersections. Interesting findings resulting from studies by a San Diego police division. They found that at 2 of the intersections accidents decreased, at 4 they increased (due to people slamming on their brakes to stop), and other 9 there was no change.
Forget about unsafe stops, weather conditions, if you are pulling over for an ambulance, it all isn't caught on tape. Sucks if you ask me.
0.350000 seconds *sigh*
if its anything like the uk it will be $120 The UK is generally one big rip-off so let's say ...$90
It can range from 0 dollars to thousands of dollars, for any tickets, fee's etc... it is different in every area of the World. In most of Asia it's about $3.
I was told by several legal sources to always dispute a speeding or moving violation ticket, even if you were in the wrong. Definitely if your job depends on it. Definitely if you've got something plausible to say. For example if the sensor was mounted on a bridge you could say the vibrations make it inaccurate.

Well Chicken I'd use the same response I use with "trademark violations" and other emails I get, until I sign for something my response would be "what ticket?"
At least make them spend their money to get yours, wait for something you have to sign or a policeman to deliver the ticket.
I'm glad those redlight cams aren't being used around here yet, of course with all these rednecks, there's not a street sign without ****** holes in it, I can't imagine what a high dollar camera would suffer at the hands of the "good old boys" especially if that camera just cost Bubba Ray Jim Bob Joe Mack a $341 fine! <BOOM BOOM BOOM> "damn camera".

I'd like to hire Bubba Ray Jim Bob Joe Mack for a "hit" if ya' know whaddamean. I usually prefer good fellas, but a good ol' boy'll do.

Did you see my post about not signing the ticket?

There's nothing to sign. They send it to you in the mail with a bail amount and a court date (really just a go to court by this date) and you either mail it in (thus pleading guilty), or go there, pay it, and see the judge who will most likely tell you you're guilty and tell you you're not going to see the money again and ohh by the way, pay court fees on top of it.
I'm practicing bending over, because I have a bad feeling they aren't going to listen to reason and common sense.

Here it's the same price whether you go to court or not.
I got a ticket for improper taillights a while back, and I showed up:
I was like "this is crap I had new lights put on and it took me 3 minutes to fix the reversed wires"
they were like "ok no problem just show up for court and if it's fixed now the fine will be thrown out of window"
"OH COOL ok what time do I show up?"
"Get here at 8:30 and they'll call you back sometime that day"
"er uhm, SOMETIME that day?"
"yeah sometime before 4:30 pm"
"you mean I have to stay here possibly ALL DAY to fight a ticket? How much is the fine?"
"$10"
"$10 freaking dollars? Hell I'll pay that right now!"
"ok that's $10 plus $115 in court costs"
"..... this don't look like court to me"
"still gotta pay court costs"
"ok what if I show up and they throw the ticket out?"
"still gotta pay court costs"
"this city sucks I'm glad I'm moving back into the county REALLY soon"

You should ask them how you can get a ticket if you take the bus to school :)

We have those cameras all over the place here in the Charlotte, NC area. I've never received a ticket but I think that it's about $50 or $75 with NO points on the license.... which is the most important part.

In the words of John Denver, "Thank God I'm a country boy..."...
The town I live in got a grant (I'm still a bit upset someone would give a grant for such things) to add red light cameras. I've yet to see any though I never intentionally run a red light...

Yeah we're back in the county now, and I do my best not to go into the city limits if I can help it.
No permits required to build a freaking dog house or put up a fence. Fixing to get about 100 pines logged off my property, and a couple acres graded smooth and a pond dug, no permits needed, ain't gotta ask no one permission and the only form I fill out is the check I write the fellas that do the dirty work :)
