My CD RW drive doesn't open, but the light that blinks telling you that it is busy is always blinking. Nothing is in the drive, and it doesn't appear on My Computer, btw I have XP Professional.
This has been going on for about two week now, I just didn't really care about it till I wanted to play games.
Thanks for any help

I can only think of two things that would be causing this:
1. The IDE cable is loose or unplugged on the drive
2. The drive is completely shot
I hope it's only the first one.

My friend told my how to check the cables and they are fine, and the computer is a 01, so I don't think it's dead yet.

When you boot up your computer, in the self diagnostics, do you see a list of attached drives and does your CDRW show up as one of them?
You might also get into your BIOS and make sure that the drive is not disabled for any reason.

You're drive is most likely shot. Even though it is relatively new, it is very possible for it to have gone south.

I think that it might have gone shot, but it is still under warrenty so I might be able to get a replacement
